Text: Matthew 9:35-38
What kind of person are you?
Jesus is a people person! We are too as followers
Jesus is a people person! He sees need and potential in people!
How do we follow the example of Jesus and live as a people person?
1) Stay in the Zone
V35 - Every place he went he took the Good news
In the zone in sports - zoned out in life - automaton living - Think in the zone:
Teach - give instruction - wrong teaching, right teaching, takes courage!!
Preach - proclaim, herald - SPLASH! Look for opportunity to Praise God - or say Jesus!
Heal - People are wounded, hurting! Song People Need the Lord
Your voice and attention can have a healing touch!
What kind of person are you? Different types pertaining to next segment
2) Have Compassion to the core
V36 - Jesus saw the need and His gut ached for them!
The core in fitness - a strong core makes for a more able body!
Work the core! How? "See where they are before you judge what they do"
Where did Jesus see the people were? Harassed, helpless, fainted, scattered, weary, distressed, and disputed, WITHOUT a Shepherd, Lost and downhearted.
Worried and wobbly, frantic and feeble
Hung in the briers! Jumping barb wire fences? How do you see people? Cranial Conjecture vs. Compassionate core - Judge others by actions, justify self by intent
All this wells up into a great sense of urgency! The great need of the masses!
3) Pray for God's work!
Jesus sees the need and potential in one fell swoop!
A) The contrast - masses - Disciples - pray for God's work! B) Plentiful! C) Eternity!
God's reaping - leading into the Kingdom! Everlasting life
Grim reaping - eternal death
Discovery by prayer: The heart of the Master will get you to the heart of the matter - God's work! Not your work!
Conclusion
What kind of person are you? Cast the vision for OHC to be people persons - SPLASHING our zones with real compassion, for the sake of life!
