Text: Philippians 2:5-11
Attitude: Mental position, or feeling or emotion, with regard to a fact or state. How you come off!
Ex: 1) A Boy Scout attitude - 2) Christ-like attitude: What’s that look like?
God: "Because you are the people of Christ come off as Christ-like!"
Cause: To come off as Christ-like.
How? We remember Jesus and examine self.
1) Set apart
V6-7 - Remember Jesus! King of Kings! Didn’t cling - willingly came down!
God’s plan no matter the cost!
”The ministry that costs nothing accomplishes nothing.”
Examine self - do you count the cost of serving God? "How will it impact me?"
If you are in Christ you are set apart.
Attitudinal descent is hard! Takes effort, discipline - "He made himself", "being found"
Lady’s rear view mirror - How you appear? How about how God will appear?
Come off set apart to serve God’s plan and purpose!
2) Surrendered
V8 - Remember Jesus! "Humbled himself" "obedient" - God’s will no matter the cost!
"Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. ‘Abba, Father,’ he said,’everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.’”
Examine self - Are you self-satisfying or self sacrificing? Is it God’s will or your will?
1 Thess. 4:3 - 5:18 - 1 Peter 2:15 - Romans 12:1-2
"There must be full surrender before there can be full blessedness." - Frances R. Havergal
Sing song she wrote: "Take my life and let it be" - as we prepare for the Lord’s Supper.
Conclusion
The name of Jesus will impact our attitude! We will come off with joy! Praise! Assurance! Glorious is thy name O Lord!
