Text: Luke 9:51-62
Grand canyon trip - Are you unstoppable sometimes?
God wants us to be unstoppable followers of Jesus! Fulfilling His mission and plans!!
Yet sometimes we stop, don’t we?
Be on the unstoppable journey with Jesus! How?
1) No Detours!
V51-58 - through hostile territory - Jesus kept the mission and the manner
V51 - A) Time had come – fulfillment - our time -God’s plan for us - NOW!!
V54 - B) Spirit of grace not anger and revenge! 1)They were loyal 2)They were wrong spirited - We are rescuers not destroyers! V56 - The mission and manner! No detours!! V57-58 - no comfort zones! You will live exposed! “Homeless” - “willing to go and planning to stay, or planning to go and willing to stay” Status quo - cocooned lives
V56 - C) To follow means having an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus
Following Jesus - easy and difficult - No detours! Through the hostile lands to the glory of God all with a mission and manner
I hated to leave the canyon! Had to depart! The unstoppable follower will not depart!
2) No Departure!
V59-62 - no departure from the message and the mettle
Jesus teaches that our first call is to Him and the message of the kingdom
1) The message - V59 There can always be a good excuse! “But, if, first” - Excuses are like little kids fighting to be first in line! What causes us to tell Jesus we will catch him later?The cultural call - MSU sorority - Hold on to Jesus regardless of the world’s way
No departure! Jesus first in all things! Before spouse, family, work, church - His message!
NO DEPARTURE!!
2) The Ministry - V62 - When I decided to go into ministry – Point - looking ahead to the great work! You have a field! You have a great work! You have a ministry because God is in you and with you! You go in the direction you look - Keep a grip on the plow and an eye on the furrow - Start small and keep plowing Corn fields - the beauty - People will see Jesus!
NO DEPARTURE!!
