Text: Luke 7:36-50
Sirens, storms, turmoil! No control! You exist this way? Without peace - no control?
Tom - “No control . . . bad mistake” Living without peace! Sometimes even religious people are not people of peace but of control! What came first rel. or faith? External controls instead of internal controls! God - We can live as people of peace! With peace even in times out of our control! What’s a person of peace look like? Be relevant! “Come to Jesus, go in peace!” Be relevant! How do I come to Jesus?
1) Realize your sinful life!
V36-37 - Are you living resistant or repentant? Simply inviting Jesus in as a guest or seeking Him out as a Savior? Are you in control or in Christ!
Realizing a life “off course” sinful! The ports of call are not satisfying!
Just like the lady - hear the good news - You can be forgiven! You can be restored and renewed! Control - contrast and comparison – “I’m not as bad as . . .” .Realize it is not religion but relationship! Come to Jesus, go in peace!
2) Come and adore Him!
V37-44 - Two responses to Jesus - Skepticism or adoration
Passion in the heart or question in the head? How can I have this great love?
A) Know how much you matter to God
B) Consider the debt of sin? Know the extent of God’s love for you!
C) Be bold and courageous in your expression of love!
Note her tokens of devotion - external controls thwart the internal control!
How can you bless Jesus? V44-46 - serve Him and Honor Him - With what you have!
Come to Jesus, go in peace!
3) Expect the life of Shalom
V47-50 - Jesus can and will forgive sins! You will find the love for Jesus! Song - Oh, how I love Jesus - You must come to Him with expectation!
A) Jesus teaches it is faith that saves and love is the outpouring of our rescue! Rick guiding me up a slope in the Rockies - I was devoted to Him!
B) Jesus assures us of a life of peace! Shalom - a word used to greet and say farewell. In your coming and going you can live in peace and as a person of peace!
Come to Jesus and go in peace!
Conclusion
The turmoil and the discovery of the peace Jesus can give you! Your story - Are you living in control or in Christ? Allowing the externals to rule instead of the internals? You can come to Him today! Realize your sinful life! Come and adore Him! Expect the life of Shalom!
