Text: Ephesians 5:22
Estranged - mutual enmity where once was love dysfunctional - abnormal, unhealthy behavior within a group or unit - words that are accepted as norm! Relationships strained, love lost, families torn - the enemy loves the dysfunctional and estranged God has a way we can be functional - The kingdom way of relationships. Two essentials make one functional. What are they?
1) The foundational function
V33 - Love - Kingdom, Christ-like love - V25 - giving love sacrifice - V26 - purposeful love - her best - V28 - like yourself - royal law of love - Love is the foundation of your relation! Agape love - the determination it takes - Husbands that are foundational have decided to follow Jesus!
Word the world hates submit - Galatians 3:28, Acts 10:34
2) The structural function
V33 reverence respect wives, support and nurture the leading of love! Just like the church supports the mission of God so we support the mission of marriage. V31 - out of his side then by his side - second your husband as he seconds you!
Conclusion
Where is it hardest to be a Christian - home, work, community? Take it out on the one you love? A marriage that is functional has two that make one - two essentials that make one functional.
