A Telling Worship

Psalm 95

The worship service is the entry point! Worship must be telling! Definition: Carrying great importance and weight, producing a marked effect. “The most telling evidence against him..” The worship service is the most telling evidence about us!!

Q: How do we have a telling worship? What makes for a telling worship service?

Worship of God is to be telling! How do we have a telling worship?

1) We enter in the celebration of God’s greatness!

V1-5 - There is an invitation to participation in the celebration!

Come invite-come! Right at the door we are to be gracious and open! Welcome! Join in! Celebrate with us!

We sing and shout for joy - We thank and extol - There is vocal expression!! All participate!

We break out of the Mr. Magoo life! We find joy! A reason to be thankful!

V-3 -We realize our great God!!

Worship does not satisfy our hunger for God. It whets our appetite. Our need for God is not taken care of by engaging in worship - it deepens. It overflows the hour and permeates the week.” - Eugene Peterson

We gain an encouraged soul!! My God is able! His hand is upon my life! CELEBRATE!!

Searching for the lost hope? Enter in! God is able! Celebrate Him!

We see a flow in the worship - We continue to tell!

2) We enter in our worship perspective

V6-7 - A) Come - Again there is an invitation to enter - B) I revere him - highest esteem! No one compares! His presence is awesome! How do I do this? Physically and spiritually!

There is a demonstration of our position before our maker!

Bow and kneel worship before God - We enter a worship perspective! - We truly honor, submit, and adore our Maker! He is our Lord! Leader! God!

Positioning yourself for advancement! We position ourselves before God. We acknowledge Him above ourselves!

He is my Maker! 2) He is my Shepherd Psalm 23 - Come under his Lordship! Believe in His protection! Show yourself to be one of his flock! Cast your cares upon Him!

This is a time of telling!

Leonard Sweet writes, ”Our pews are occupied by people who want to be moved, but who don’t want to move.”

We celebrate, we revere, now we respond! God still speaks! Hymns, Scriptures, sermons, testimonies, Holy Spirit!

3) We respond to God’s voice!

V8-11 - There is a call to obey the voice of God! God wants to see movement in your heart, not hardening!

Exodus 17:7 - when the people doubted God! Quarreled, tested, they lost the blessing God had for them! There was hardening!

Forgot God’s faithfulness, God’s power!

We allow the agent of self-consciousness - self reliance - self-atonement, self-delusion to slip in and our hearts are non-responsive!

Jesus said worship in spirit and truth - The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth! God speaks the truth! The blessings are in his voice! Obedience enters into His rest! Be in a content and satisfied state as a figurative extension of a place of rest - You discover the good hand of God upon your life!

Conclusion

A.W. Tozar said, “Worship is the missing jewel of the church.”

God wants us to have a telling worship! Let’s celebrate God! Let’s revere God! Let’s respond to God! Every Sunday let’s be on the look out to have a telling worship! Come on!! Enter in! We are going to worship!!
